Keep Your Valuables and Yourself Safe While Traveling

Keep Your Valuables and Yourself Safe While Traveling

Have you ever travelled? If the answer is yes, then we are sure you can relate to the stress that can go along with it.

For those of you who have been travelling for years, you probably have come up with a system of your own in order to make the whole process much easier.

While traveling, it’s important to keep not only yourself but your valuables safe as well.

A Sure Way to Never Leave your Money Behind

If you are worried about losing things such as your money, ID or even your passport, we have a surefire way to make sure you never leave home or your hotel or hostel without them. All you need to do is place the shoes you are going to be wearing that day near the items that you do not want to leave without. Whether these items will be stored in a safe or just your closet; you are definitely not going to leave without wearing any shoes; at least we hope not.

Do Not Lose Your Seat on the Plane

Many people do not realize that when a flight has been overbook and needs to cut out some passengers, they are going to first remove those who have the cheapest tickets. If you want to lower your risk of having a delayed flight then you should print your boarding pass out early. This is going to make sure you have claimed your seat on the plane and greatly reduce the risk of waiting for another flight.

Lower the Chances of Losing Your Luggage

If you want to decrease the likelihood of losing your luggage; you should purchase luggage that is unique; this can mean a bright color or pattern that will stand out from the rest. Most people have completely black luggage and after a while, all bags start to look the same.

Another way to make your bags easy to recognize is to tie ribbons or colorful string on the outside or maybe even some stickers; anything that will get your attention. Also, be sure to have identification inside your luggage so if for some reason your bag is lost, there is a way for it to be sent back to you.

Keep Your Valuables Safe

Keep in mind, each piece of luggage you are taking with you is going to be x-rayed before being stored underneath the plane. It is always a good idea to keep valuables such as electronics with you at all times. Not only can those around you see what is inside your luggage but so does each employee. As much as we want to trust those around us, there is a chance of having important items stolen if you are not careful. It is better to be safe than sorry, don’t you agree?

Have a System

When your bags are being x-rayed, it’s important to have a system to help simplify all the madness going on around you. This is going to not only save you time but also lower the risk of any of your items being stolen.

Let’s face it, when you are taking off your shoes and separating all your electronics so they can be scanned properly, your mind can be a bit of a mess. You are probably thinking about your flight, what time it is, how the day is going to unfold and so on. This is the perfect time for thieves to get their hands on your personal belongings.

One thing you can do is put your bags through the x-ray machine first and keep all your valuables on the other side of the machine with you. This way, you will be moving as your items such as your laptop, iPod, and cell phone are moving, too. Once you reach the other side of the x-ray machine, you can easily pack all your items back into your backpack/bag. (For those of you who have ever put items through the machine in a random, unorganized order; you’ll know what we’re talking about)

TSA Scanning

When going through the TSA scanner, it is always a good idea to keep track of where your valuables are. This is another perfect opportunity for thieves to have their way. Airports are hectic and some people do not even realize they are missing anything until they reach their destination or their flight is already departing.

Always, always, always keep your ID with you. Be sure to have it in the same pocket or pouch all of the time so there is never a question as to where you placed it. If for some reason you need to use your ID, take the extra time to put it exactly where it needs to be. May seem simple, but this makes it much less likely that you will drop it or leave it behind.

Hotel Safety

While we know there is a lot running through your mind while you travel; one thing many people tend to forget is hotel safety. Get to know your emergency exits a bit while you are moving in to your room so even if there is a fire, you will know in which direction you need to be headed. Another thing to keep in mind is that fire truck ladders can only reach to about the 4th floor. This may be something you want to consider when selecting a room.
