Glen Affric Hostel Is The Most Remote Hostel in the World
Glen Affric Youth Hostel is one of (or is) the most remotely located hostels in the world. Hidden in Strathglass, somewhere in the west Highlands of Scotland. A car can only take you so far as the nearest drivable road is quite far from the hostel. Eight miles to be exact. So travelers must trek or bike the 3 – 8 hour scenic journey there. The nearest store or shop of any kind for food or gear is 21 miles away but the hostel is completely surrounded by nature and wildlife, pure from the rest of the world. This eco-hostel has no signs to guide you to as a map and compass is required, and it is bring-your-own-food-water-sleeping-bag. Obviously no cell signals either. But there is electricity powered by solar panels and a wind turbine. Other than that it is very old-school – a classic backpacking adventure.
