The Czech Republic is located in central Europe and bordered on all sides by other countries. It is located on the south-eastern side of Germany, northern side of Austria, south of Poland and Slovakia on the easterly side. The Czech republic is one of the leading tourist destinations in the world today, which is largely attributed to Prague, undoubtedly the most famous city in the region and which also serves as its capital.
Prague is a cultured city that boast rich preserved architecture, most of which can be found in the Old Town. One famous sight is the Prague Castle that is located just near the Old Town, this is undoubtedly the largest castle today hence is a must visit for people taking a tour in the Czech Republic. Krizik Fountain – Prague
Indeed an extraordinary spectacle made up of lasers, water jets and high-pitched music that combine to create a very unique experience for tourists. Images of the Krizik Fountain are found all over the internet and in postcards, but rest assured they are nothing compared to the actual experience of seeing the fountain live, especially on a temperate summer evening. Words cannot be used to explain this tourist attraction, so be sure to pay it a visit when you are in the Czech Republic.
Malostranské Namesti (Little Quarter Square) – Prague
Yet another attractive attraction in Prague is this amazing public square that has been a vital part of life in the region for over 750 years. Originally, it was a very busy market place that bordered the Prague Castle. Most of the structures surrounding the Little Quarter Square are known for their characteristic medieval character and although almost all of them have been rebuilt, they still maintain their charm and character.
Staropramen Brewery Visitor Centre – Prague
How about taking some beer brewing lesson from the 2nd largest breweries in the whole of Czech Republic? The Staropramen Brewery has been in existence for over 150 years and is sure is an unforgettable experience. You will first be taken through a 60-minute film of the history of brewing in Prague, before getting the opportunity to sample some the best premium larger for the brewery.
Spilberk Castle – Brno
Brno is the second largest city in the whole of Czech republic, and it too has its share of attractions that are worth a visit, such as the famous Spilberk Castle. This is the crowning landmark in the region that stands stately atop the famous Spilberk Hill overlooking the historical Old Town District. The Spilberk Castle, with its charm and grandiose, dominates much of Brno skyline, and is sure is a must visit attraction that dates back to the start of the 13th century.
Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul – Brno
This is an enormous Cathedral referred to as Katedrála sv Petra a Pavla by the locals that equally has a number of tourist attractions worth exploration. They include an 36 foot tall altar where the figures of SS Paul and Peter are to be found. These figures date back to the 1890′s. There is also a very tall tower where you can climb to check out the infamous Bishop’s Palace or visit the crypt.
Czech is definitely a surprising little country to stop through while backpacking.
