The Perfectest Backpacking Travel Backpack is by Tortuga

The Perfectest Backpacking Travel Backpack is by Tortuga

Backpacking and backpacking are spelled and pronounced exactly the same but they are quite different. First there is hiking backpacking and then travel backpacking – both of which involves moving from area to area with just a backpack in tow. While the basic mechanics seem the same, that’s where the similarities end – and so should the primary gear, but rarely so.

This is why the new Tortuga Travel Backpack 45 is so special.

There are hundreds of great backpacks in countless styles and varying options in the market but nearly all of them are specifically made for camping / hiking backpacking, not extended round the world travel. There is a certain specificity about how experienced vagabonds pack their backpacks and many settle for a less than perfect bag – but not anymore. This specially made backpack suits the need and requirements of a travel backpacker down to the smallest details at a comfortable price of $199 USD without sacrificing quality.

“Tortuga Backpacks has designed the ultimate travel backpack made exclusively for travelers, by travelers.”

Not only are these backpacks designed by actual backpackers (Jeremy Cohen and Fred Perrotta), they are made in the U.S.A. with a lifetime guarantee and a 110% refund policy. The Tortuga Backpacks follows our vagabonding packing rules of being no more than a 45 liter capacity pack and is a carry on accepted size of 22″ x 14″ x 9″. Like most other high quality backpacks, Tortuga has typical features such as sternum & waist straps with padding on high stress areas. Many premium priced backpacks tend to use cheap and flimsy nylon as there base material but Tortuga packs are an abrasion resistant 1680D ballistic nylon (the US Military likes to use 500D – 1000D). But it’s the cleverly useful and almost hidden features that really makes this the perfect backpacking backpack;

Compartmentalization and Front Load Packing:

Front Compartments of the Tortuga Travel Backpack
Instead of having 1 large compartment and 1 small one, there are ideally sized areas to separate clothing, shoes, accessories and laptops. Top loading backpacks are great for school where only books are used. But to backpackers where packing is an art, this is the only way to pack.

Security and Secret Stash:

Lockable Zippers and Stash Pocket of the Tortuga Travel Backpack
A feature all travel backpacks should have but almost never do, the lockable zippers. Just insert a small padlock in the loop for great on fly theft deterrence. Tortugas also have a secret stash pocket tucked behind where clothing should be packed perfect for cash, documents and passports.

Pockets, Pockets and Pockets:

Smart Pockets of the Tortuga Travel Backpack
Big but not too big accessory pockets on each of the sides for books, gadgets, food and travel documents. Also, the ingenious semi-hidden pockets on the waist belts for fast and easy accessibility.

For those who scour the internet and browse every retail shop in vicinity for that perfect travel backpack, the search is over…

The Tortuga Travel Backpack 45 is now here.

  • I am carrying out a three month backpacking trip through Europe this summer time. I want a backpack that may hold enough gear, but continues to be light, then one that’s waterproof and huge, I think I may check out this new Tortuga pack.

  • Meredith Andersen

Ahhhhh! I had my heart set on the REI Vagabond backpack after weeks of searching thinking I found the perfect one… Now I find this! More decisions to make now, FML.

  • Thanks for featuring our bag, Six. Just more proof that the Evaser blog kicks ass. Keep up the great work!

I’ve been searching for a rolling backpacks for my gap year and the only person I love may be the hurley new icon backpack at pacsun, but it is no more available. So, these tortuga backpacks look promising.

    • Jack, be careful using a rolling bag as the cheap plastic wheels can easily break if you’re dragging the bag around a lot outside of airports. If a wheel breaks, you’re left with a really heavy, useless bag. If you have any questions about the Tortuga, feel free to email me: fred AT tortugabackpacks DOT COM.

  • I’ve travelled all over the world using many different bags and backpacks and I can assure you this is by far the best backpack to travel with. Made by people who know what there are doing. Do your self a favor and compair this bag with anything out there. You can’t go wrong. I bought mine when it first went on sale (I think I was the first person to buy one) and haven’t even thought of another bag to travel with since.

  • Six and Evaser,

I’m the other half of Tortuga… thanks so much for the awesome review.

When we set out to make our bag, our goal was to do just what you said: make the “Perfectest Backpacking Travel Backpack.” We’re honored.

Not bad, a little too big for me but probably just the right size for most backpackers. I could probably do with a 25 or 30 liter version.

    • Thanks for the feedback. We decided on the size to take advantage of airlines’ carry on size limits (typically 22x14x9″). Some people, used to packing large suitcases, have a hard time adjusting to packing lighter. Others, like yourself, can do with even less.

In the future, we’ll be rolling out more sizes to accommodate every type of traveler.

  • I am carrying out a three month backpacking trip through Europe this summer time. I want a backpack that may hold enough gear, but continues to be light, then one that’s waterproof. I’d like something which has a pouch for any water bladder. I have done some investigation, consider I’ve little experience, I am wishing someone can provide me good quality options and plans.

    • Hi Cherita,

Just saw your comment. The Tortuga works perfectly for long backpacking trips. You can carry it on to your flights, but it still fits a ton of stuff. If you have any specific questions, please email me (fred AT tortuga backpacks DOT com). Thanks for checking us out!

  • Can you really create a eletric backpack leafblower? What’s the utilisation of the backpack. I’m able to only find gas backpack leafblowers. Anybody know why?

  • I’ve this backpack that’s really comfortable, however it just looks SO uncool! Among the finest to understand how to allow it to be look really awesome and original!

  • A buddy and that i are likely to backpack through Europe for 12 months. You want to leave in August of 2012. You want to go the complete least expensive way relating to this. We are really not trying to stay in luxurious hotels or get your meals at fancy restaurants. We’re there to visit and find out the planet. Also, please ANY tips or useful recommendations, or anything could be great! Thanks a lot!

  • I need a backpack that has room for my laptop, preferably waterproof and that will last me at least 2 years. I would also like it to have something so that it doesn’t hurt my back because I have to walk all over campus. I’m a college student and it rains or snows here A LOT!

I would prefer under $50 but I’m open to all suggestions.

  • I’ve got a darn heavy backpack, and I am just wondering whether it calculates any kind of my body system, or simply strains my muscles. I do not strength train, however i swear that factor could possibly get as much as a minimum of 15 pounds.

  • I’ve got a Osprey Talon 33 backpack which i passion for general use and college, and wish a camera bag which will fit my D90 and three contacts which will fit nicely inside this pack. A hyperlink towards the bag could be appreciatted.
