Like Khaosan Road in Bangkok, Halong Bay is a definitive destination that is or should be part of every backpacker’s and vagabond’s itinerary traveling through South East Asia. Also known as Vinh Ha Long and Ha Long Bay, the literal translation is “Bay of Descending Dragons” is located East of Hanoi in Vietnam. Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site best known for the ghastly environment of the thousands of karst and islet formations that look almost alien. This video was mostly shot on a junk boat by Stephan Reiziger during his backpacking travels through Vietnam.

We intend to visit Halong Bay and Sapa in a few days for a maximum of five days. We could book the junk/hotel online or book it after reaching there? I’ve heard the prices cited online are way greater compared to real prices.
i’m in hanoi right now only at that backpacker hostel known as the drift. they provide a deal tour for just one evening and a pair of days in halong bay, although i’m told i are only included for twenty-four hrs. their cost is $68, that we am told is very decent, but someone pointed out that it might be cheaper to leap on the bus and mind there, then book on the tour in the bay.
ideas?
has anybody carried this out before and it has tips or recommendations?
cheers
How many days shud be spend at Halong Bay? Is it worthy to move to the surroundings area ex: Sapa and other places? Any hotel or accommodation recommended?
