Unless you truly find something you like, forget the cheap street market trinkets and overpriced gift shop items and consider currency as a souvenir. While its true you can pretty much get nearly any currency at many banks back at home, there’s just something about picking up “local” cash with your own hands while your actually there. Whether its a single bill or coin for each country you visit, it will take up minimal space in that valuable and limited real estate we call the backpack. Also, you won’t have to spend a lot of money on shipping souvenirs back home if you run out of space – which happens a lot. Not to mention these cash souvenirs can act as a backup money stash just in case.
